A Foo Dog, also known as Fu Dog or Foo Lion, is a mythical Chinese guardian lion. Despite the name "lion," Foo Dogs more closely resemble dogs or lions with stylized features. They are often depicted in pairs, with one male and one female.

Foo Dogs are traditionally placed at the entrances of buildings, such as palaces, temples, and homes, to serve as guardians. They are believed to ward off evil spirits and provide protection to the occupants. The pairing of a male and female Foo Dog is often associated with the concept of yin and yang. The male is depicted with a paw on a ball, representing power and control, while the female has a paw on a cub, representing nurture and protection. Foo Dogs have a long history in Chinese culture and art. They are symbolic of power, strength, and prosperity. The use of Foo Dogs in architecture and art dates back centuries and is rooted in Chinese imperial traditions.
Foo Dogs are often depicted in a stylized manner, with exaggerated features and intricate details. They can be made of various materials, including stone, bronze, or ceramic. The details of the sculpture may vary, but common elements include a flowing mane, open mouth, and intricate patterns.
Traditionally, the male Foo Dog is placed on the right side, and the female on the left. This placement is believed to align with Feng Shui principles to balance and harmonize energy.
Similar guardian lion figures are found in other East Asian cultures, such as in Japan (known as Komainu or Shishi) and Korea. While there are similarities, each culture may have its unique variations in the depiction and symbolism of these guardian figures.

    • We have two options for shipping. Economy Shipping ships 5-8 business days. Standard shipping is 3-4 Business Days.

      • We will provide you tracking information once your order has shipped. If for whatever reason you do not receive your package, please contact us at info@shopaphrodites.com and we’ll sort it out. 
    What do I do if I receive a defective or damaged order?
      • We want you to be happy with your purchase. If you receive a defective or damaged order, please return it, and we’ll send you a new one as soon as we receive the returned item(s). We will pay return shipping on any damaged or defective order.

    Damages and issues

    Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right.

    Exceptions / non-returnable items

    Certain types of items cannot be returned, like perishable goods (such as food, flowers, or plants), custom products (such as special orders or personalized items), and personal care goods (such as beauty products). We also do not accept returns for hazardous materials, flammable liquids, or gases. Please get in touch if you have questions or concerns about your specific item.

    Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items or gift cards.

     

    Refunds

    We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.
